The property's mission began around 2007 as Mid America Horse Rescue, focusing strictly on standard equine rescue and rehoming, inspired by a horse named Sir Anthony, who faced an uncertain future after suffering a broken knee on the racetrack. As the farm expanded its purpose beyond basic rescue, it formally incorporated as the 501(c)(3) non-profit Equus Rescue and Therapy in 2009, transitioning the property into a dual-purpose healing center that paired retired racehorses with at-risk youth and military veterans.
